Happy Sunday, creator! I’m a little late this week (more about why in the “What I’m creating” section), but got a piping hot batch of prompts to warm up your chilly Samhain weekend.
All November long, we’ll share prompts inspired by Indigenous makers and culture. We’ll cover a variety of eras and nations from across Turtle Island (North America). But more on that in just a minute! First, a recap of our final week of spooky prompts for October:
🌈 ICYMI: Recap of this week’s prompts

🎨 Maker Monday (October 27) — Happy accidents and “intentional” mistakes in art
🖼️ Artistic Tuesday (October 28) — “What doesn’t kill me nourishes me”: How a serious accident sparked Frida Kahlo’s iconic painting career
🌿 Worldly Wednesday (October 29) — Hawthorn trees: gateways to the faerie realms
📘 Lit Thursday (October 30) — Friendly fire: the origin story behind Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein
🕌 Framework Friday (October 31) — The Hill of Tlachtga, where Halloween was born
🎭 Spectacle Saturday (November 1) — Celebrating the patron saint of creativity for All Saint’s Day
🗓️ Coming right up! A peek at this week’s prompts
Creativity prompts go live every morning, Dublin time.
🎧 Soundful Sunday (November 2) — “La Bruja”, a sparkling song with sugar-skull visuals for your Día de los Muertos celebrations, by Mexican artist Rosy Arango
🎨 Maker Monday (November 3) — Getting inspired by the bold geometric patterns in Navajo woven blankets
🖼️ Artistic Tuesday (November 4) — Drinking in the layers and colors of Skywoman, a painting based on Indigenous creation stories
🌿 Worldly Wednesday (November 5) — Where art, nature, and necessity intersect: Cherokee rivercane basket-weaving
📘 Lit Thursday (November 6) — Life Among the Piutes, 1883, considered the first autobiography authored by an Indigenous woman in written form*
🕌 Framework Friday (November 7) — Kindred Spirits: a statue commemorating the Choctaw Nation’s selfless act of generosity toward Ireland during An Gorta Mór (The Great Hunger)
🎭 Spectacle Saturday (November 8) — Honoring the life and legacy of Jonathan Joss, Comanche and White Apache Mountain musician and actor who was best known for his roles on King of the Hill and Parks & Rec
🎧 Soundful Sunday (November 9) — Some chill Cherokee-language music: “Tsitsutsa Tsigesv” by Agalisiga “Chuj” Mackey, folk and country musician
*Because much of Indigenous “literature” was passed down through the oral rather than written storytelling tradition, some of our Lit Thursday prompts this month will be audio-based.
💝 Your affirmation for the weekend
My creative output does not determine my worth as a person.

Write this on a sticky note and paste it to your mirror, my friends.
It can be easy to forget this. Especially for those of us who make a living from our art. (👋)
If you don’t finish that painting when you said you would, it doesn’t mean you’re a bad person. If you didn’t work on your book this week because you’ve been swamped at work, it doesn’t mean you’re not a writer, or that you’re a failure.
Baby steps, y’all. Baby steps.

🤲 What I’m creating this week
Hey! I’m Mel, founder here at Joyful Creators Club. This week’s newsletter is a day late — had something very important to attend to yesterday.
Here at the club, we talk a lot about rest, grace, and moving at your own pace. In the interest of practicing what we preach, I needed some time and space to process after yesterday’s event. (By taking a 6-hour nap and waking up at midnight. Whoops.)
I’ve also been finishing up my first ever commissioned short story, which I’m excited to share this week on Mellifera Muses. And I even finished my first embroidery project! (Remember that workshop I told y’all about last week? I spent 6 hours in a local art gallery, fully immersed in sewing and communing with beloved friends new and old. I’m totally hooked on the hoop! 🧵)
What have y’all been up to in your creative practice this week? How are you feeling about Joyful’s prompts? Got suggestions on things you’d like to see in the club? (I’m hoping to have comments and prompt submissions available soon!)
Until next weekend — stay crafty!
