Happy Saturday, creator! Autumn is well and truly upon us — the days are short, the nights are long, and the evenings are brisk. It’s the perfect season to blow off all your plans, stay indoors, and treat yourself to an extended creative sesh.

To inspire all your makery mischief, we’ve got a fresh helping of Indigenous art, from textile to memoir to basket-weaving. Pause to make yourself a bevvy (you’ve earned it!), then scroll on for some cultured creativity.

🌈 ICYMI: Recap of this week’s prompts

*Because much of Indigenous “literature” was passed down through the oral rather than written storytelling tradition, some of our Lit Thursday prompts this month will be audio-based.

🗓️ Coming right up! A peek at this week’s prompts

Creativity prompts go live every morning, Dublin time.

💝 Your affirmation for the weekend

❝

Ideas and inspiration are infinite and abundant — I choose to seek them out

As artists, we’re told that “creative block” doesn’t exist. Or, if it does, it’s as easy to overcome as “getting inspired”.

Meanwhile, if you’ve ever tried to force yourself to create while you’re blocked, you know it can backfire and make you feel worse.

That’s because we often skip the “get inspired” part and go right for the “get to work” part.

Next time you get creative block, pause. Instead of beating yourself up, get curious about the ideas out there, just waiting for you to pluck up the courage to seek them out.

🤲 What I’m creating this week

Hey! I’m Mel, founder here at Joyful Creators Club.

This week, I finally published that short story commission I’ve been teasing in the last couple newsletters. Set in the universe of the Fallout video game series, this post-apocalyptic tale is all about a man and his cat. I even designed the page in Fallout’s Vault-Tec colors!

Apart from that, I’ve been doing lots of design and web dev work for my human rights projects. Coding doesn’t always feel like a “creative” activity, but it’s always rewarding to see your designs come to life!

How are you liking the prompts for Indigenous Heritage Month? Let me know! I’m having so much fun discovering artists whose work is infused with so much culture and color.

Until next weekend — stay crafty!
